Ötzi "The Iceman" has been on display at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano since 1998. The Iceman was given the name "Ötzi" because he was found in the Ötztal Alps. In 1991, the glacier mummy, together with his clothing and equipment, was discovered by chance by mountaineers. Over 5300 years ago, the man was murdered in the Schnalstal Valley in South Tyrol and was naturally preserved in the ice until he was found.
